Abortion has been recently brought back to our attention with all the hype that the subject is receiving from the media. Because of the good record keeping, we can tell that

abortion has been around for many years. In long ago times, if the abuse that women received in her abdomen did not kill the unborn child, then a long, grueling ride on horse back would cause the death of the unborn fetus. Also, because of the shortage of food and water, tribes had to leave the area where they were staying. These long hours of riding horseback would cause the mother to have the unborn baby prematurely. The baby was either left for dead or killed by another tribe member. This would be very hard on the

mother, and in most cases this type of birthing process would kill the mother.

Custom Essays on Abortion: Right or Wrong

Many people feel that abortion is an act of murder because of there religious beliefs or because of their morals and values. In the Bible it states, Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.-Jeremiah 15. Pro-life supporters have often based there argument on this particular scripture. Unborn life is seen to be equal that of born life.

The Jewish faith generally teaches against not only abortion, but also infanticide, which is defined as the act of killing an infant. One exception might be that the continuation of a pregnancy poses a risk to the life of the mother.

There are many different options besides abortion. One option the mother has is to put the child up for adoption. This would benefit the parents of the child, who might not be able to take care of the baby for whatever reason they might have. Also this allows the child an opportunity to grow up in an environment that they might not would have been able to if they would have stayed with the birth parents. This is a good method because this allows a family that might not be capable of having a child of their own.

Another way of trying to avoid abortions is planning the pregnancy. This would allow the parents to gain enough funds to support the new member of the family. This would also help the parents not only get financially stable before the unborn baby arrives, but they could also emotionally prepare themselves for the birth of their new child.

Another way of avoiding abortions is increasing the availability of contraceptives. A large amount of Americans do not have access of funds needed to obtain any type of

contraceptives. Although now, in certain areas places like the local Health Unit provides free condoms to anyone who ask for them.

Sex education in schools and communities would lower the abortions in America. Education on such topics as how reproduction works, how their own bodies work, and how to prevent pregnancies. By doing this, students could get the correct information they need about sex and the importance of sex education. Some people may think that sex education will increase the sexual activity among teenagers, but actually this allows them to see that it is perfectly fine to wait until they are ready instead of letting peer pressure influence them. This would be a lot better for the students to receive the information they need instead of getting it through watching television, music or their

peers.

In married couples the best way to avoid having to deal with abortion is sterilization, because it offers the best protection against unintended pregnancy. However, sterilizations are permanent. This is the only method so far that is known to be 100% affective, but this method is offend times not used because of the fact that this

method is not reversible.

There are many reasons women have abortions. One of the reasons is that the pregnancy is unplanned. Although some women can get over the fact that something has happened in their life that is unplanned, others may not be able to get over the initial shock of having an unplanned pregnancy.

The age of the mother whether it be young or old may have an affect on if the mother has an abortion or not. Each person has their preference as to what age is too young are too old to have a baby, so it is left up to the individual person.

One of the major reasons that a woman might have an abortion is because drugs, alcohol, and/or raped played a role in the conception. The women may be unable to remember the sexual encounter. Also if the mother is addicted to drugs or alcohol this can lead to very serious problems during the pregnancy or after the baby is born. This can

lead to serve medical problems. If a the person is in the middle of there academic career, whether it be high school

or in college, then they may not be willing to take the time off needed in order to have the

baby. Educational and career opportunities play a major role in a woman considering having a baby or not.

If the mother has no means of taken care of the baby financially then she may consider having an abortion. She may not have assistances from either the babys father

or his or in some cases her family. This is actually looked upon as a way of being unselfish in a way. The mother is considering the well being of the child. She may have

thought long and hard about this procedure before she actually goes through with it.Although these reasons are not all of the reasons women have abortions, these are

some of the main reasons. Other reasons might include the woman is mental incapable of taking care of herself let alone a child of her own, if the parents know the child has a serious birth defects that is going to cause the baby death after they are born, or while

they are in the womb.

I feel that abortion is totally against everything that I believe, not only morally, but in the religious aspect of it as well. After I conducted the research for this paper an I

saw the reasons for both sides, pro-life and pro-choice, I came to the conclusion that there are some legitimate reasons women haves abortions, just because they do not want there baby. Many times that is not the reasons they have the abortions.

There should be more sex education taught in the school systems. This would not only educate the students, who are sexually curious anyways, but it will give the teens the

right information they need, instead of learning everything about sex from either a friend of what they hear on television and in musical lyrics.

The Holy Bible (New International Version). Jeremiah 15 p.4.

Vaudville, the term, refers to American variety entertainment. However, actual vaudeville refers to variety entertainment consisting of short acts such as acrobatic turns, song-and-dance numbers, animal acts, and light or comical theatrical pieces. It was predominately white and especially popular in the early 0th century. Since it placed together musical numbers as well as theatrical acts, vaudeville could be considered the first step towards musical theater. It was the begining of the evolution from Vaudeville to Chicago, Rent, Les Miserables, Ragtime, and many other musicals in modern times. It was also the door for true black entertainers to work their way up into being predominate acts in Broadway and become respected for their talent. Vaudeville also left the stage open for precision line acts, which are still visible and seen in many Broadway shows, such as the Rocketts and Las Vegas Show Girls.

Many of these acts were created by either a dance director or a choreographer. Many times they are confused to be the same but there is a definate difference. A choreographer creates the actual dance steps or moves and usually has a background indance of previous formal dance training. The teach the dancers the movements that will be performed. A dance director creates the lines and formations of the dancers while sometimes giving instruction of which dance moves to perform. Unlike a choreographer, they do not create dance movements, instead they use simple movements that have been used in opther productions and change the sequence so it appears to be different.

I am interested in becoming a sports announcer. I have been a sports fan all my life. I enjoy going to games, reading books about sports and watching ESPN every chance I get.    Broadcasting involves writing, informing, entertaining, and educating people about specific sports. Statistics is certainly is important in sports reporting. Batting averages would be a good example of the use of math in sports. A batting average is the number of hits divided by the number of times at bat. For example, if a batter had only hits when he was up to bat 5 times, to figure out his batting average you would solve the following problem divided by 5 = .4. So the batter would have a .400 batting average. This is simple arithmetic. Being a sportscaster is a career that probably involves using a lot a simple arithmetic. Your college major would be communications, radio-TV, or journalism, but you also need a physical education minor. If you wish to become a well informed sportscaster, the P.E. training offers important foundations for both major and minor sports.    Once you are involved in broadcasting, you need to practice constantly. A portable tape recorder can help you out greatly you can practice at a little league, a high school or college game, by calling the play by play. You can even turn down the TV sound and do the play-by-play calls in your own house. A sportscaster starts at the bottom. This allows a new announcer to make mistakes in front of the least critical audience. You need to listen to sportscasters, but dont try to copy them. You need to come up with your on style. Becoming a sportscaster involves a good education, lots of preparation and hard work. So, you really need to enjoy your job.

Review

Frankly speaking, I was not much attracted to read this book. First, it was because of its unappealing cover. Then, it was of course because of its classification and last but not least, because I knew it would not be my type of book that I would like to read. I had that kind of 'sixth sense' in me. But somehow, as a trainee teacher in English, I have to read most of the novels and classics in the stores right? So I started it of with this book. And my, am I not dumbfounded to discover the speed of my reading. Not only did I not have a single feeling in me to engross to this book but my 'record player' in my brain was not functioning at all as I was not able to picture the story even in a slightest way. I used to read and was able to see the scenery there in my head of the trilogy The Lord of The Rings, completed it in months time and believe me, the books were twice or thrice the size of this. I wondered why it did not work here.

To Kill a Mockingbird started off with the protagonist, Jean Louis Finch, telling us of her family members and also their history in the town of Maycomb, Alabama. Her ancestor, Simon Finch, was a fur-trapping apothecary from Cornwall whose 'piety was exceeded only by his stinginess.' He 'paddled' through Alabama when General Jackson 'ran the Creeks up the creek.' He practice medicine but was unhappy of the 'persecutions who called themselves Methodist' and so, forgetting the thoughts of his teacher, bought three slaves and 'established a homestead on the banks of the Alabama river. That homestead was named Finch's Landing and made a living out from cotton. It was made a custom that all the men have to stay in the landing and worked in the land for survival.

Forward to the twentieth century, Atticus Finch, her father, was said to be the first to break it when he left to study law in Montgomery while his younger brother, Jack went to Boston to take up medicine. It was only his sister, Alexandria remained in the landing and 'married a taciturn man who spent most of his time laying in a hammock by the river wondering if his trots lines were full.' Jean Louis or better known as Scout in this book lived in the main residential street with Atticus, her brother who was older than her by four years, Jeremy Atticus or Jem and Calpurnia, a black cook. Her mother died when she was two. She died of a sudden heart attack than ran in her family. She was fifteen years her father's junior.

After reciting her whole family history which I read three times to actually understand it, she started her adventure of life by first meeting her fianc, Dill. Mind you, she was only about six upon meeting him and secretly betrothed to him at about eight. No one knew anything about it but Jem suspected something between the both of them. Dill or Charles Baker Harris was a year older than Scout and was a very curious boy. He was from Meridian, Mississippi, and came to Maycomb for each summer to stay with his aunt, Rachel. He gave me an impression that he was a boy that bound to create trouble for his naughtiness and 'daredevil' behaviour. He even dared Jem to walk into the Radley's resident even when both Scout and Jem warned him not to mess with that family.

Like many stories, there would be a suspense or mystery in the plot and this time around, the limelight went to the Radleys who not only had no contact to the outside world but also was rumoured to be cursed and many speculations of evil things happening to the people of Maycomb had something to do with them. I seriously grew a bit bored of the storyline despite of the suspense having injected in the story. It beat around the bush and was so confusing that sometimes I had reread it again to gain understanding. Too troublesome, too confusing and too slow of a plot. I guessed that was what made my reading slowed down to a surprising speed.

It was not later that Scout was able to go to school. In school, she was warned by her teacher, Miss Caroline Fisher, a lady of Winston County from North Alabama, to not let Atticus teach her to read. She said that it would interfere with her progress in her learning. I did not agree with the teacher for not letting her learned from her father. I believe a strong basic is always needed to ensure that a principle or a complexity of one field will be able to master and also to apply to our daily life. Thus, Scout had the right to not only learn the basic of knowing how to read but also to let her father to teach if he had the time and effort to do so. Furthermore, the teacher would not be able to focus on each student in the class to input the basic of reading. I myself was taught to read and even write before I started my kindergarten.

With the line of '" Your father does not know how to teach "' by Miss Caroline not only showed that she did could not be bothered of Scout's feelings but also easily irritated when a child bides for understanding. One day, Miss Caroline had wanted to lend Walter Cunningham, a farmer's son who not only had little to eat but also never took anything that they would never be able to pay, some money for lunch, scout filled her in on his family custom. But before she was able to explain further on his reasons for not taking her money, Miss Caroline punished Scout and sent her to the corner of the room. She gave me the impression that she wanted everything to work out her way. Not only did she not surveyed the customs and way of life of each student in her class but was a bit ambitious to change and trained them under her own learning system. That caused stress in her and was proven when she 'sink down into her chair and bury her head in her arms' as told by Scout.

Truth to say, I do pitied Miss Caroline for all her effort in teaching was a bit wasted. I do understand that it was not easy teaching young students but as a good teacher, she should bring down her level to that of her students so that they will understand and respect her. No point going all high up and almighty in systems and rules when a simple communication between the child and the teacher was not practiced.

It has taken me a while to realize what an extraordinary influence my best friend Crystal has been on my life. Not only has she been a friend, but Crystal has influenced me in many ways, mostly because she's smart, compassionate, and courageous.

Crystal has always been very smart. She excels in school, and even received a full ride scholarship to college. I have always been able to turn to Crystal when I need help with school, and when I was questioning whether I wanted to go back to college or not. She was the one who encouraged me to with her good advice. She's not only school smart, she's work smart also; Crystal was very motivating at work. We worked together for one and a half years and between the two of us we could solve almost all our problems. In addition, when I would get distracted she would help get me back on track, which really helped improve my work ethics. As a result of Crystal being good at school and her work it has helped her become successful in her life. She is now the manager of the financial records department of her current job. Crystal has taught me the harder I try the more I get, just by watching her through her life experiences. I only hope I'm as successful as she has already become.

Another great attribute about Crystal is how compassionate she is. She works full time, and goes to school full time, but regardless of how busy she is she always has time for others. Crystal has two brothers and one sister she helps raise, and always spends a lot of time with them whether it's going roller skating, taking them shopping, or going to the park, they love every minute of that attention she gives them. This has made me realize that the little things can make a big difference in someone's life. Crystal is also very active in the community; she donates anything she can, volunteers for many activities such as at homeless shelters, nursing homes, and at a local elementary school. I always wondered how she did it until she took me with her. I was amazed at how appreciative the people we helped were and how great it made me feel. I am now active in the community, but still can't compare to how dedicated Crystal is to others and how compassionate she can be.

The most admirable attribute about crystal is how courageous she is. She has been faced with many challenges in her life and I think each one has made her stronger. She doesn't have a dad and this was very hard on her when she was younger. As for me, I have a dad and mom, my parents are still together, and this is something I have always taken for granted until I met Crystal and found out how frustrating this was for her. I am now very grateful for how lucky I am. Not only that, Crystal was abused throughout her childhood by her mother's boyfriend. She made up lies about the bruises, feeling she couldn't tell anyone, and nowhere to turn. I don't even know if I could have handled this, I thought my life was rough because my parents wanted me to do my homework and chores before I could go play. Even more, when she was twelve years old she saw her mother get stabbed by her mother's boyfriend. Luckily her mother survived and recovered this tragic event after months of rehab. When I asked Crystal how she survives after having so many tragedies happen to her she said, "No matter how hard you feel you have it, someone has it worse." And that is something I will always remember and live by.

Custom Essays on friendship

Crystal has influenced me in many ways throughout our friendship. She has made me more knowledgeable in school and work, she has increased my awareness in the community, and foremost she taught me to always be strong. I hope everyone has a friend to look up to and admire as I do to Crystal, everyone needs a friend to walk beside.

Raul Truisilo said that the dance maker's medium is the human body. In class we have studied the different planes the human body moves in and the bones and muscles that form the human body. I believe a better knowledge of the human body, and our own bodies in particular, will enable us to move in ways that are new to our body. One of the choreographers said that when he is creating a new dance it isn't always new for the audience, but it is always new for him because his choreography is based on a different ways of moving and experimenting with different movement combinations. When we formed into groups in class and told each other to change a movement that we've already seen before, we were using this same tactic.

I have to admire women such as Isadore Duncan and Martha Graham for their devotion and creativity in dance. They are women who wanted something different and something liberating. I think modern dance for them was an escape from their, otherwise, everyday, mundane lives as women in their times. They broke some rules, and they succeeded. My favorite aspect was their choice in costumes. They used loose clothing that moved freely. I enjoyed their break from the rigid layers of tight clothing women were expected to wear in their time. These women definitely took "everything" and added "more" to it with the intention of creating a new dance language that is still growing today.

Modern dance is "everything that has been done, plus." This is the quote in the video that stuck out in my mind the most. Everything we do in class resembles something that has been done before, but we do it in a different way or at a different speed.

The Jewish Passover ceremony commemorates the events of the Exodus from Egypt, the suffering of the people and their relationships with God who led them out of slavery in Egypt. Passover is celebrated on the anniversary of the Exodus and it is left to each generation and every family to create the total experience. The Torah states "And on the 15th day of the month (Nisan) shall be a festival". Aspects are the way in which religious traditions express itself. Beliefs, rituals, symbols, sacred texts and literature, social structure, myths and stories, code of behaviour and religious experiences are all aspects through which the tradition of Passover is shaped and formed. All the aspects involve dynamic interaction and symbiotically express the traditions' beliefs. Inherent to Judaism are certain core beliefs; such as beliefs about redemption, Gods omnipotence, the special relationship between God and Jews, Man and the natural world, as well as the belief in a universal God who is just and merciful. By constant practice of these expressions of beliefs, the Jewish people reinforce and maintain their relationship with God.

Judaism believes in the concept of redemption. This is shown during the reenactment of the Exodus in the Passover seder, most specifically when the ritual of opening the door for Elijah is performed. Rituals are the actions that follow a set pattern sanctioned by tradition and through which some sacred purpose is achieved by relating the earthly to the divine. This ritual symbolizes the hope for redemption, as Judaism believes Elijah to be the forerunner of the Messiah. This links with the aspect of the sacred text of Passover, the Haggadah. The sacred text is an authorized document which derives authority from their divine origin or inspiration and which contain some truth necessary for life or salvation. In the Haggadah it is written "Next year in Jerusalem," expressing the Jewish hope for redemption with the advent of the Messiah and the belief that God will be redeem the Jews and return them to Israel. During the seder, (the service for Passover) the belief in redemption is also expressed through the aspect of symbols. Symbols are a traditional mark, object, word or gesture, which represents some reality truth or meaning beyond itself. The symbol of the four cups of wine drunk at the seder represent the four ways God will redeem the Jews. "I will free you, I will deliver you, I will redeem you, I will help you to be my people." Ex 66-7. Thus through the people's commitment to aspects of

rituals, sacred texts and symbols of the Passover festival, Jews affirm their belief in a messianic redemption and ultimately Tikon Olam, a perfect world.

Judaism believes in Gods omnipotence. Through the mention of Gods "outstretched arm" in the sacred text of the Haggadah, Jews acknowledge Gods ultimate power and divine fiat. "And God took us out of Egypt with a strong hand and a outstretched arm". The outstretched arm is also represented by the aspect of symbols. The symbol of the shank bone which is placed on the seder plate portrays the concept of God leading the Jewish people out of slavery at his own will. His omnipotence is also represented through the myths and story of the ten plagues that God brought upon the Egyptians as punishment for keeping the Jews in slavery. "The plagues; blood, frogs, vermin, beasts, cattle disease, boils, hail, locusts, darkness and the slaying of the first born represent different aspects of Divine mastery over nature and the world. These several aspects are all traditions, which reinforce the acknowledgement by Judaism of Gods infinite power.

Order custom research paper on aspects

Another core belief expressed in Judaism is of the special relationship between God and the Jewish people. Sacred text is one aspect through which this relationship is represented. Exodus 4 "God heard their moaning and God remembered his covenant" The celebration of Passover itself as a ritual and religious experience cements the Jewish belief in a special relationship between their nation and God. "God took the Jews out of their burden, saved them from hard labor, liberated them with mighty acts and dedicated them as holy people". The experience of retelling and reenacting the Exodus story through social structure of family enables modern Jews to relive the experience of liberation from Egypt by God, to understand and feel that covenantal relationship. "In every generation, each person should regard himself as if he came out of Egypt."-The Haggadah. This highlights the convenantal relationship that exists between God and the Jews and upon which Gods action in saving the Jews find foundation.

Judaism believes in the importance of the relationship between man and the natural world. On the seder plate, the symbol of karpas, spring vegetable represents the birth of the nation of Israel and their exodus at the beginning of the season of spring. This is also symbolic as it links the rebirth of the Jews with the rebirth of nature in springtime. Jews recite the prayer for Dew "The savor of your excellence recalling Deliver us from exile we ask so we

may sing your praises softly falling as dew" as well as the prayer for vegetables, "Blessed are you Lord, our God, King of the universe who creates the fruit of the earth". These prayers acknowledge Gods creation of the beautiful world and his people. Judaism sustains the belief that man must 'till and tend' the earth which belongs to God, the ultimate owner. This statement of Gods universality is also expressed through the aspects of Passover. "Nevertheless I have spared you for this purpose in order to show you my power and in order that my fame may resound throughout the world". Judaism believes in a universal God. This is portrayed through the ritual of dipping ones fingers into the wine and spilling a drop whilst reciting the 10 plagues. This is symbolic of the spilling of the blood of the Egyptians, connoting the suffering of the Egyptians, thus acknowledging that God is the God of the world and all its creatures, a universal God.

By surveying the seven dimensions of the Jewish religion, the aspects help characterize the religion as it exists in Passover. The concept gives the Jewish people a balanced description of the movement which has animated human spirit and taken a place in the shaping of society. Though Jewish rituals and practices like these also have complex symbolism, their most powerful quality may be the most obvious. They create and invigorate connections and relationships between man and God.

Please note that this sample paper on aspects is for your review only. The issue on capital punishment being allowed in the American court system has been an ongoing debate for many years. I believe that capital punishment is moral and just. Edward Koch said "it is by exacting the highest penalty for the taking of human life that we affirm the highest value of human life." How can murder be taken seriously if the punishment isn't as serious as the crime? It can't be which is why we need to do something about it. I firmly believe that you can have a deep regard for human life and also be in favor of the death penalty. One is not synonymous of the other.

Murder is the worst crime there is. Anything less than the death penalty is insulting to society and most of all the victim and their family. People who are unwilling to respect the laws of our country and be responsible law abiding citizens will be dealt with within our judicial system. This is a system that has been approved by the people of the United States and is a just way to dole out punishment for crimes committed. Morality is defined as the principles of right and wrong. As moral beings, humans deserve praise for good deeds, and punishment for bad choices. The severity of the punishment may range from a slap on the wrist to death, but the punishment must fit the crime!

It is wrong morally to imprison someone for murder. A sentence of life in an air-conditioned, cable-equipped prison where a person gets three free meals a day, personal "play" time, and regular visits with friends and family is a slap in the face of law abiding citizens. Anti-death penalty activists will say that not all prisons aren't like this. This shows lack of knowledge. Eventually, criminal rights activists will see to it that all prisons are nice places to go. But no matter what the conditions of a certain prison are, someone who murders another human being should be made to pay for his actions by giving his own life. This is so, because a loss of freedom does not and cannot compare to a loss of life. The cost to carry out a sentence for death is much lower than the cost to house convicts for the rest of their lives. It costs correctional facilities around $4,000 a year to house an inmate that is sentenced to life without parole. In 50 years with a 4% inflation rate and $75,000 added for legal fees for trials and appeals, the figure leaps to 5.5 million dollars for one inmate. This is not factoring in any medical care or previous medical problems that the inmates have or will need. The same inmate if sentenced to death would cost around 1. million dollars, assuming 1.5 million dollars for appeals and 6 years costing $60,000 a year. With the prison system over-crowding and running short on money you can free up cells and also save money by executing the most violent offenders. Yes the prison system could also build new prisons and gain more revenue by asking for state and federal assistance, but that money has to come from somewhere. The money they would get comes from us, the taxpayers. It is not fair to make people that have committed no crimes at all or are maybe victims of crimes to pay extremely large amounts of money to house criminals. Where is the logic in saying Yes, you are a victim of crime, and yes, it is going to cost you money because you were a victim.

I have tried to argue that the death penalty is moral and just. We must never forget that no one has to be executed; if there are no murders, no one is executed. Murderers are not innocent people fighting for their lives; that statement describes the victims. First and foremost, the citizens of the United States must realize that victims rights take precedence over those of the criminals.

Introduction

This is the Test Plan for the ABA-1010 DSS Satellite Receiver Board, its related drivers and software, and the ABA-100 Smart Card Reader. This board is a single slot PCI bus card. It inputs RF signal from a DSS outdoor unit which consists of a satellite dish and low-noise block (LNB) converter. It demodulates the RF signal into data streams which are then submitted to an error correction process, and subsequently to a substreams identification process. The substreams, which the user has selected and which he is authorized to receive, may undergo decryption process, if required. The board outputs the selected data substreams to the host PC over the PCI bus. The ABA-100 Smart Card Reader is used in conjunction with the ABA-1010 to read the user¡¯s access card which allow the user to receive the signal he is authorized to receive.

Scope

The purpose of this Test Plan is to describe ABA-1010 DSS Satellite Receiver Board¡¯s testing coverage and methodologies. CTL will test the ABA-1010 for compatibility with various platform, device configurations, OS, and Adaptec products.

Objectives

The objectives of CTL testing is to ensure that ABA-1010 DSS Satellite receiver board and its drivers work well together under different hardware platforms, Operating Systems and device configurations. The testing will cover the compatibility of ABA-1010 with different systems (concentrating on name brand PC with Intel CPU) and device configurations.

What is sadness? Sadness is, contrary to popular belief, a natural emotion or feeling. People feel sadness whenever they lose something that they previously enjoyed such as someone they loved, or something as simple as a stuffed animal. This particular emotion is actually good for you. It offers relief from the pain of the loss and it gives you some measure of the importance of what you've lost. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury strives to create a society that lives in the absence of sadness. He aspires to give everyone happiness by getting rid of conflict and inequality. However, what the society did not recognize was the value of this gloomy emotion. Guy Montag, the central character in the book, has learned to conform to the idea that the society he lives in is so very rigid and standard. However he eventually realizes that the society he lives in is not suitable for a happy life. In an attempt to solidify happiness, society became dehumanized through its abandonment of human instinct, which ironically caused society to become anaesthetized.

In the various attempts to abolish despondency by the elimination of literature, all emotions in society were destroyed. In the past, the society was able to read books, and therefore had no reason to burn them. For this reason houses were not fireproof, and therefore Clarise alludes to the fact that firemen used to put out fires, not start them. (8.) Thus proving that at one point in this society, books were accepted and then eventually were banned. While education doesn't seem like an awful attribute, it created inequality, which made people unhappy. In order to explain the abolishment of books, Beatty expressed to Montag, "Technology, mass exploitation, and minority pressure carried the trick, thank God. Today, thanks to them, you can stay happy all the time…" (58). As Beatty explained, the government utilized technology, mass exploitation, and minority pressure to eliminate sadness. One example to substantiate the statement made by Beatty would be the use of the hound. The government used the hound in order to find and destroy books, which would, according to their society, create equality and peace. They believed that the elimination of books would solve everyone's problems, and as a surrogate for books used controlled technology. Since there were no learned people, there would not be controversy over the explanations of ideas, or ideas themselves. However, what he did not account for was the fact that without thought, there was no emotion, and therefore no happiness or sadness. Happiness and sadness interplay off of each other, there cannot be happiness without something to contrast it to. Therefore, in the attempt to make everyone happy by eliminating literature, the ultimate outcome was a society that was essentially all robots

These "robots" were incapable of comprehending personal history, and therefore had no sense of the passed time. The theory behind destroying a sense of time was that if no one were to grasp the idea of time, then they would, among other things, have no awareness of aging, and everyone would be happy. However, unexpectedly in doing so people were not happy nor sad, merely indifferent. In the conversation between Montag and Mildred the morning after the ordeal with Mildred's blood cleaning, Mildred cannot remember the events of the past night and therefore questions, "Last night-… What about last night?" (1). Mildred had no recollection of time or of past events and therefore no one knows whether Mildred was unhappy or just couldn't remember. The attempt to eliminate sadness did not work, because since she couldn't remember anything in the past she not only couldn't remember the bad things, but she also couldn't remember the happy events. The two therefore neutralized themselves between the happy and the sad causing Mildred to be apathetic or even sometimes depressed. It is extremely hard to live a happy life when you can't remember any of the past joyous moments because of the dehumanization impressed onto society. Unfortunately, this dehumanization made people even more depressed, because it could cause them physical harm, moreover it could cause them emotional harm because they may not be able to remember joyous moments.

The supreme consequence of the mechanization of society was that the feelings about life and death became more depersonalized. To many, death is a very personal and emotional event. Contrary, though, in Montag's society, death was absolutely depersonalized. People rarely were affected by death, however, just continued with their standard life because they believed that death was just another "thing" that happened in life. When depersonalizing death, the intent was to eliminate the sadness that went along with it, and therefore make everyone happy. While it did eliminate the sadness, it also eliminated the happiness that went along with life. People had no reason to cherish life, because they believed didn't think about the possibility of dieing, since it was such a minor part of life. When probing the idea of death, and looking deeper, it is essentially a culmination of life. However, since the citizens were unable to remember life, the idea of death was changed. In their minds they lived for just a moment, and therefore when someone died, nothing essentially died because nothing essentially lived. Mildred articulates the ideology of society by expressing her feelings about the woman Montag killed. "She's nothing to me; she shouldn't have had books. It was her responsibility, she should've thought of that." (51). Mildred wasn't at all concerned that someone's life was just taken, she was concerned that Montag was sick because of her. This clearly illustrates the ideology of society in that no one cared about death, it wasn't happy nor was it a particularly sad time. So in the end, since no one understood that death was actually a very catastrophic event, no one therefore cherished life and lived unconcernedly, not happy nor sad.

Eventually Montag grasps the fact that his society is extremely corrupt due to the mechanization and dehumanization. There are various causes, which lead to the demise of a normal society, and lead to the society prevalent in F451, which relies on technology and abandons human instinct. As a result, the citizens have become non-threatening,

non-interesting humans who can be easily led and manipulated through fear. The intent was to eliminate sadness but the end result were humans with absolutely no emotions.

The novel Each Mans Son by Hugh McLennan is a great demonstration of Calvinism. By definition, Calvinism is the doctrine emphasizing the depravity and helplessness of man. In Each Mans Son, Calvinism, also known as Puritanism is a rejection of beauty and pleasure, a condemnation of mans sexual nature, and a compulsion to work- this is the essence of Puritanism as MacLennan sees it. The Puritan, failing in these self-imposed standards, is plagued with guilt, shame, and fear. This description is best expressed in the novel best in the characters of Dan, Margaret, the Miners, Mrs. MacCuish and Mollie.

Dan Ainslie is the character that most strongly represents Calvinism. There are aspects of his character that depict this. The first of these is the way he deprives himself of his sexual desires for his wife. He is constantly frustrated with how he cannot express himself to her. This causes and emptiness with in the relationship that he feels guilty for. His desires are best described in chapter 7.

He wanted to go off and lose himself. He wanted to find there a woman with Margarets body… who would hold his head and tell him that for all his worthlessness she loved him. (Pg. 65)

The second is that he has a compulsion to work. Almost every where in the novel he is working. Whether it is a surgery, putting in a few more hours or learning Greek hes always working.

Why a brilliant doctor who worked as he did should feel impelled to become a master of Greek she had never been able to understand… (Pg. 5)

Finaly, He feels guilty for almost everything. If he doesnt work hard enough, if he says something to benefit himself, does not help someone, or for no reason at all.

But why must he, Daniel Ainslie, forever feel guilty before he could reason away and reason for guilt?

(Pg. 64)

What was wrong with desire except that within himself it was overpowering and he feared it?

(Pg. 64)

Another strong argument for Dan is how he tries to forget of his Calvinistic background because it has driven him to misery. With all of the emotions bottled up in side of him, it on his father. When Alan asks him about ghosts, he says There are no such things as ghosts… but we all see them sometimes. (Pg.18) The ghost that Dan is speaking of is his Calvinistic habits.

Dans wife Margaret definitely feels the effects of Calvinism in her life. She is usually hurt by it and it makes her question her worth. She mostly feels poorly due to Calvinism because of the treatment she receives from Dan. She does not know if he truly loves her because he never tells her that he does. He doesnt spend time with her, and there is no passion in the relationship.

She hated that volume as a woman hates her husbands mistress. She feared it because it stood for something in his nature she never could touch. (Pg. 5)

This is how MacLennan describes the way Margaret feels about the Greek dictionary that Dan has because it receives more attention than she does.

The Miners are a brutal group of people. They go to work before the sunrises and come home after it sets. When they get home they are all dirty and tired. The young ones go out and drink every night and after that, they pick fights with rival coal miners. The impact of Calvinism on their lives is that come Sunday, they will be in their finest suits at church, hoping to find justification or forgiveness of fighting, getting drunk, impurities at the mouth (foul language) and their other committed sins.

But everyone went to church in Broughton, even those who were brawling the night before. (Pg.80)

The feeling of guilt forces them to shrug their way there, black eyes, hangovers, sailor tongues and all. This also demonstrates that even the lower classes are affected by this religion.

Mrs. MacCuish is the personified symbol for the tradition, loyalty to religion, and discipline. The most visible characteristic she poses is her attitude. She is a miserable old lady who has been aged by the sorrows of her religion. She demonstrates this by the maltreatment she gives Alan when she has to over see him for the morning during chapter 18. She first of all criticizes his mom for being a bad parent and then gets Alan some food to eat and demands him to put some molasses on it.

Alan did as he was told, but when he tasted this brown syrup he could hardly bear to swallow it, for it was not like the creamy molasses his mother gave him. It was full of crusty lump and the moldy bread was dank and sour. (Pg. 15)

As this quote states, the food given was not of specific qualifications. When he demonstrated manner and etiquette by not licking his fingers, she took great offence.

Hass nobody told you it iss a sin to waste fud?

Earlier, they had said grace to bless the food and being the adult, Mrs. MacCuish decided a say-after-me grace was appropriate. The second line into the grace was a demonstration of her hypocrisy. She believes that her state of spiritual purity is much better than of an innocent child.

Most merciful God… I am a miserable sinner and I know that I whill be damned. (Pg.15)

Mollie MacNeil is the wife of the one time boxer Archie MacNeil. After 4 years of not having a husband around, she is quite lonely. Although she is married, Louis Camire is in love with her and she actually has feelings for him. This does not mean that she is guilt free.

She knew he wanted to be her lover and she knew he was even more lonely than she was her self. On an evening like this she tried not to think about the feeling he gave her.

(Pg. 1)

This tells of how she avoided her emotions toward him to keep herself loyal to her husband. She also fully dedicates her self to the raising of her child which makes her feel bad for going out with Camire in the night time.

If God looked down on them that summer, the kind of God their ministers had told them about, He must have been well pleased, for by summers end all of them except Alan were conscious of their sins. Longing to do their best, they had discovered there is no best in this world. Yearning for love, they had found loneliness. Eager to help one another, they had made each other wretched. Dreaming of better lives, they had become totally discontented with the lives they led. (Pg. 00)

Success in a religious following depends on a persons self judgement and content with their actions. But what if to be content, was to not be content at all. Is this what is desirable… is this success? Perceptions opinion is the only way that can be judged, according to the doctrine founded by John Calvin, there is nothing that spells success better than these miseries.

It is not everyday someone is asked, "What is the single most important thing you have learned?" To me, this is one of the hardest questions to answer. Consider the famous quote, "You learn a new thing everyday." Personally many individuals, especially college students, learn far beyond one new thing daily more like one hundred. Of course, some things a person learns are more important than others, but that still leaves about ten thousand new things in one semester. This question asks to choose one. As I sit here and ponder all that I have learned, from school material to living with roommates to prioritizing to time management to communication skills, etc., I narrowed my choices down. I have chosen one thing that I believe to be the most significant, important, and influential thing I have learned not only this semester, but probably in my entire life. Read, consider, and reflect on the message inside your Chinese Fortune Cookie.

Who would have known that the small two-inch long by half-inch wide strips of white paper that lie strangely within tan crispy wafers are so important and influential that I am sitting here writing a paper about them. Furthermore, the fortunes that I have received are most likely processed in a factory next to the millions of others tiny papers identical to it. My first fortune cookie came to me many years ago, resting lightly on the backside of the restaurant bill. Whether I had gobbled the treat and then read my fortune or vice versa, I did not hesitate to truly consider the meaning behind that one-sentence message. It was not until this year that I began to really reflect on and apply these messages to my life.

It all began at the local Chinese Buffet. After the meal, my friends and I opened our fortune cookies together. As we took turns reading them aloud, I paused for a moment to reread mine. "You'll never know what you can do until you try." For some reason, that sentence really struck me. I have heard that quote multiple times before, but this time I felt I actually found it's meaning. I opened my wallet, and placed the tiny paper in a small compartment next to my money.

I often refer back to that statement. When I am sitting in class with a question but hesitate because others might find it silly, when I am at cheerleading practice and have an idea that might work but sounds a little crazy, or when I am working out and wonder if I could run that extra mile, I think to myself, you'll never know until you try. The significant aspect is that those "silly questions" actually brought up important points, those "crazy ideas" wound up working, and those "impossible miles" are now run with ease. All it took was a little extra effort and confidence.

Custom Essays on The Single Most Important Thing I Have Learned All Semester

Since then, I have received messages such as, "good health is a man's best wealth," "it is better to deal with problems before they arise," and "your existence has a positive contribution to mankind." Every one of these messages has strongly affected my personal life and outlook on it. Many individuals live his or her life without remembering the simple ideas that may make his or her life slightly better and more enjoyable. I have learned that the greatest reminders of those priceless thoughts can be found on small papers lying within thin cookies, neatly folded like a beige linen napkin.

Josh the names, events, results, and records all should appear in your data base. You will also need to look at a carnival program or order of events. Attached is a copy of mine (it is actually the booklet I produce for our carnivals but in it is the program of events - you may also find other info. in the booklet that you could add to your data base). Which events are going to be run at your carnival. You will have to be able to accumulate points for each competitor so that at the end of your carnival you know who has won age champions, and house champions if that is what is required by your assignment. You will also need competitors correct date of birth so that competitors cant compete in the wrong age group.

This is all I can think of, I hope it is of some use to you. If you want to come and see me, and look through my records to get some idea of what is required of the computer at a carnival you can. I can also show you the program I used for our carnival if that would help you.

Subject Information for IPT assignment

I'm doing an assignment for IPT (which is due on Thursday the 1st) where I have to write a database on Westside's Sports Carnival Records, but I'm not sure of the exact requirements for the database. suggested I email you to see if you could give me a quick rundown of what sort of requirements would be needed, ie the database might store competitors names, events, results, and records for the sports carnival.

So if you could just email me back a brief list of possible other objects that the database could be used to store, it would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Guess? Inc. designs and markets, and distributes clothing apparel and

accessories for men, women, children and babies. It was created by three

brothers known as the Marciano brothers who grew up in the south of France, a region

that cultivated a passionate understanding of French design and essence of style. A

combination of love for the American West and with European sensibility they created

Guess? Maurice Marciano oversees the company's design direction, Paul Marciano is

the Co-Chairman and Co-chief officer, and is also credited with the vision behind the

Guess? image and is responsible for creating some of the most innovative and ground

breaking images in the history of advertising. Armand Marciano is the Senior Executive

Vice President. They were inspired by the American western tradition to begin

the clothing designs of Guess? Initially, retailers greeted Guess?, with scepticism.

Buyers weren't interested in denim; but the brother's instincts and persistence came

through. Their -zip Marilyn jean was sexy, with a unique style and attitude.

Bloomingdale's finally agreed to purchase two-dozen of their jeans. As a favour to the

Marciano brothers. Within hours they were sold out. That's when, in 181,

the official Guess? Label was born, and would become one of the most recognized brand

names. Today Guess? Is one of the most widely recognized brands in the world. Known for quality, trend setting style and marketing creativity, the company designs and markets a leading lifestyle collection of casual apparel and accessories. As it progresses into the 1st century, Guess? continues to challenge its already high standards to remain a driving artistic force in the world of fashion.

Possible Constraints on the Firms Pricing Latitude

Newness of the Product

Guess? Jeans is no longer in the introduction stage meaning that the initial high prices that were being charged have been somewhat reduced. They cannot offer prices that are too high in their current growth stage just due to the tremendous of other euro driven jean clothing lines on the market currently who offer a similar style with a similar price so if Guess? is to take their price to high they might lose vital market share.

Competitors Prices

Even though there is such an abundance of jeans on the market to choose from Guess? jeans clearly knows that their competition is the other euro jean styling companies that have pushed their operations to the North American market. The major competitors for Guess? are very similarly priced currently. Guess? jeans need to pay close attention to these companies because the Guess? customer when shopping will most likely after paying a visit to Guess? on their shopping tour will stop off at a few of their competitors as well. Knowing that the other stores also carry a euro style at a similar price. If that same client sees a similar jean at competitors store that has a drastic price difference that client could become a potential ex Guess? client.

Pricing Objectives

What began as a small, family-owned business is now a publicly traded, international organization. Currently, Guess? operates over 180 retail and factory stores domestically, over 1,000 in-store shops in other retailers, sells merchandise in over 70 countries worldwide. Due to their tremendous growth their prices must be set accordingly. In order to have effective pricing objectives in place Guess? must at least examine the following costs

• Shareholders

• Manufacturers

• Total landing costs for the clothing

• Employees

• Rent for retail facilities

• Marketing/Advertising

• Product Development

This is just a broad view of the costs that must be considered when pricing. We feel that Guess'? pricing objectives are to continue to make money and hold their reputation as a trendy unique and somewhat pricey brand. By Guess? keeping their prices higher than other jean companies they continue to hold a respect as a higher end jean company within the consumer fashion jeans market.

Price Elasticity of Demand

Since ultimately Guess? is in the jean business and there are many alternatives on the market it can be considered "elastic" in one sense. Depending of course with whom you speak with. If for example a older person who might just want a standard pair of jeans to wear to work around the house might tell you that they don't care what brand they wear just as long as their jeans.

It is catering to a specific type of market with a product that is not exactly identical to the other jeans on the market, and similar styles cannot be purchased at just any local store such as Wal-Mart. Therefore it can also be considered somewhat "inelastic". Depending on who is considered the market, but since Guess? is mainly targeting the younger trendsetters they would be considered more "inelastic" than "elastic".

Approximate Price Level

Guess? jeans definitely employ a "Prestige Price Policy". They have their product prices set relatively higher than many of the other jeans on the market. A good reason for doing so is to attract the customers who enjoy paying to look good, and get extra attention as well as the people who do not mind spending the additional money to have clothing that will not be considered generic, or that can be purchased at multiple stores at relatively lower prices. In addition to this Guess? also employs "Price Lining" Since they do offer a line of jeans they accordingly have a price fluctuation between the products. The difference in price is not much, approximately 10 to 0 dollars at the most.

Adjustments to Retail Price

The adjustment that Guess? does is a "Seasonal". This occurs when the seasons are changing and the store has an abundance of product that they feel will not carry over or stay in fashion the following season. For example at the end of summer usually when the falls fashion line begins to come in Guess? puts on a large sale with great price incentives such as a certain percentage off. As well as this it be considered that they as well as offering a seasonal trade they also offer somewhat of a "Quantity Discount". By offering buy one get second half off deals. In hopes of clearing the old stock before the season crosses over into the next and they are stuck with dead inventory. Basically those are the only two types of retail discounts that are offered since it is retail. There are no cash discounts since they personally don't really give anyone credit so them having an incentive to pay sooner would be irrelevant. As well trade discounts seem obsolete, as no one would really want used clothing.

Times have changed and divorce seems to be the easy way out. It seems that any time couples have problems they chose divorce as a way to escape. However, parents do not realize that the people most affected in these ending marriages are their children. Two websites were visited, Oregon CounselingDivorce and Interview with Judy Wallerstein, and they both discussed the effects of divorce on children.

From the site, Oregon CounselingDivorce, it can be determined that divorce has different impacts on different children. There are factors that can make the situation better, but there are some that can make divorce worst on children. It is good for children of divorce to at least have the involvement of one, if not both, parents in their lives. It was generalized that parents do not have to be perfect for their children, but they need to be there emotionally for the child. Be the emotional supporter for the divorced parent negatively impacts the child because they feel responsible for their parent. Instead the parent should provide all the love and emotional support for their child to help them get through the situation. Children's feelings should also be considered when contemplating divorce, because that will allow them to feel that they were not completely ignored through the decision of divorce. Divorce should also be the solution when there is abuse going on in a relationship. Sometimes children don't understand why parents divorce and they may also stop trusting and that is why it is important to talk to their children.

From the site, Interview with Judy Wallerstein, it can be concluded that divorce affects children of all ages. It seems to have more strain on a relationship when the child is older and involved in their own family life. They feel responsible for their parents and neglect their own family. Children of divorced families seem to have more fear of being abandoned. This site discussed how the absence of fathers cause children to want to find them later in life and has negative impacts far into the future. Like the Oregon CounselingDivorce site, this site discusses how it is important for there to be the involvement of at least one parent actively. Also this site adds that the involvement of grandparents is good and may end up saving the child from some future problems.

Both sites reveal that there will be some behavior problems along with emotional problems after divorce. One site focused more on the fear of abandonment and problems with relationships. While the other talks about the acting out and conduct problems. Both sites say that divorce causes children to feel mistrust towards people. The sites differ because one focuses more directly on children and makes generalizations, while the other is more personal accounts and solutions. Both sites provide solutions, but one has less solutions and less personal accounts.

There were two other websites I found very useful, Father of Life and Impacts of a Court Mandatory Parenting Program. Father of Life provides information to fathers on how their absence affects children of divorce. It also gives these fathers a chance to ask questions online, it gives advice to mothers, and it also gives information to help fathers assist mothers in childrearing experiences. I think this site is useful because fathers are not always there for the after affect of divorce and they need to know how they can help their children cope. I think that the Impacts of a Court Mandatory Parenting Program is a good site because it tells parents that there are programs out there to help get through divorce. It gives the impacts of the program as well and provides a way to help children and parents get through what could otherwise be a hard time.

Once ago, there were a group of friends. Purfo was a cute,

playful golden retriever. Purfo's owner Bertha loved Purfo dearly. Bertha was 11 years old. But this story takes place before all this weird stuff happened.

Purfo's best friend, Kuro Kuro Hamster was indeed an ornery hamster. What happened that day in Fairy Lake where they live. Now only you, the reader will find out what happened.

That day Purfo and Kuro went to the Natural Museum of Puro Land. Their worst enemy Cha-Cha Ching was at the museum when they were at the museum. Cha-Cha was there causing trouble like always. He came over and pushed Kuro into a glass case. Kuro then tumbled over a spiritual vase. Out popped out the arch enemy of Puro Land, Gus Moe. Gus was captured into the vase Kuro accidentally broke.

The evil scientist Gus Moe swirled around Purfo and said, "Who let me out?"

Cha-Cha said "He did," pointing to Purfo.

"You did," Gus said.

"No not me," Purfo said. "It was Cha-Cha Ching."

Mr. Gus looked at Cha-Cha. "You, Cha-Cha will be my first Scientific experiment."

Later that day, Purfo walked Kuro home. When Purfo walked into his house Mamma Puff greeted him. He told Mamma everything.

"That's horrible," Mamma said.

"Yes Mamma it is. Now I have to go and save Cha- Cha."

"Be careful," Mamma said.

"I will," Purfo responded.

When Purfo entered the lab he saw Cha- Cha all tied up. He murmured "Help me" to Purfo.

Gus came out. "Are you all ready? I will turn you into a mouse. Come here Cha- Cha let me strap you on the Gus Machine."

Suddenly Purfo jumped out and turned Gus around. He strapped him to the chair. Purfo hit the transform button and Gus the Evil Scientist was now a mouse. Then Purfo and Cha-Cha were best friends. Purfo kept Gus Gus in a cage in his room. From then on no one ever played in the museum again!

Trainspotting Symbolism, Representation, and Point of View

In Danny Boyle's 16 film, Trainspotting, audiences are escorted through the life and heroin addiction of Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor), and introduced to the idiosyncrasies and short comings of his friends. Throughout the film, Mark's situation and disposition, as well as the position of the viewers, are displayed through symbolism and representation, presented within the cinematography and storyline.

In the opening scene viewers are introduced to Mark and his friends as they are running through the streets of Edinburgh, Scotland. A quick close up of feet is followed by a medium close up of the characters' faces and then a medium close up from behind. Immediately following the shot from behind the hand held technique is used to experience Mark's point of view as he's running. These fairly quick transitions lead the viewer to the position of a witness, as they are watching from behind, to Mark's point of view. This type of technique is used continuously throughout the film and allows a sense of experience and understanding for the main character's situation. An understanding of the character by the viewer is very necessary, especially when the activities of the main character are not socially acceptable, in this case heroin addiction and theft. Without the understanding of the viewer, it may be more difficult for them to accept such activities and can generate a blind and uninformed judgment.

Along with point of view, the beginning camera shots with their swift transitions, represent the chaotic lifestyle led by the main character. The idea of chaos is also present in the rapidly edited scene where Mark and Spud are sharing a milkshake. The quick cuts, followed by very rapid conversation and the exchange of speed assist in an intense and fast pace viewing of an equally intense and fast paced lifestyle.

How a scene is interpreted can be heavily dictated by the dominant color scheme. While Mark is in Scotland, the color scheme remains red, green and blue. The warm color red, contrasts with the cool colors green and blue. These contrasting colors can be interpreted as being related to Mark's bad choices and hidden potential for a better life. In the scenes that Mark is using heroin, red is usually the dominant color. Red is a color used in signs and stoplights and is associated with danger. Sometimes a blue light shines on a corner of the frame and/or the scene contains something with a large amount of green on it. Blue, most often associated with sadness, can be interpreted as representing the sadness and regret Mark feels about the lifestyle he has chosen. Green, a color used to represent sickness may also represent a hidden distaste and disgust for his addiction.

When Mark cleans up his act and goes to England the color scheme is brighter and contains more orange. Orange is generally a happier and brighter color, representing a happier future. When Mark's friend, Begby, shows up at his apartment, the color red begins to appear more often in the scene. With the steady increase of red, the viewer is led to Mark's return to Scotland for his friend's funeral and a huge heroin deal.
