In Shakespeare's book A Midsummer Nights Dream, Lysander says,

"The course of true love never did run smooth.'' Lysander is saying this to his true love Herima. Whom her parents disapproved of their love for each other. While this is going on Demetruis is making Helena his bride, although he is in love with Herima. The story gets even better when the fairies are helping them to think they all have true love.

Lysander and Hermia love each other very much, much knowing that Hermia's parents would approve or would not let them get married because Hermia's father wants his daughter to marry Demetruis she doesn't then she will die. So, Lysander comes up with a great plan that they will run away with each other and go stay with his aunt. Who thinks of him as a son. While they were discussing this they were in the forest where it is getting late so they decide to spend the night with each other. When they wake, up all will be different.

Helena loves Demetruis even though, Demetruis's true love is Hermia, but he will never be able to be with her because she's in love with Lysander. Even though Hermia's father would like her to marry Demrtruis, he decides that since Helena loves me, I'm going to love her. While Oberon and Puck the fairies, are walking through the forest talking about how to get the "Indian Boy'' they come across Lysander who is sleeping in the woods. They put love juice in his eyes thinking it was someone else. The love juice makes you fall in love with the first person you see. When Lysander wakes up he sees Helena and right then and there he falls in love with her. When Oberon and Puck found out what they have done, they know there is going to be a big problem, because they were supposed to put the love juice into Demetruis eyes. So, the fairies tired to make the mistake right by putting love juice into Demetruis's eyes, so when Demetruis wakes up and see's Helena he would fall in love with her. Now, Demetruis and Lysander are in love with the same girl which Helena thinks that this is happening out of meanness. So to fix the problem, Oberon and Puck put love juice back into Lysander so that Herima can wake him up and he will fall in love with her. So at the end of the story Lysander loves Herima. Demetruis loves Helena. At the end of the story, no one knows what love juice can do to peoples true love for each other. So I guess what Lysander said was true," The course of true love never did run smooth.

Lord Of The Flies

In the novel, Lord of the Flies "Without society's rigid rules, savagery and anarchy can come to light. It is exemplified throughout his novel with Jack and his tribe, Ralph and Piggy, and other key characters and symbols. Jacks anarchistic ideas come to view when he forms his tribe, this group would be the more savagery part of humankind. With them, Golding is showing that when or if left alone to fend for themselves, they will go back to the roots of their ancestors and the savageness of them. Ralph is shown as more of the civilized part of humankind. When he blows the conch, he forms a meeting. When the conch and Ralph are together, it forms some sort of order, or democracy, while Piggy, representing clarity and social order, is taking names and such. It seems as if Ralph is trying to portray the role of government in a modern society, listening to everyone's ideas and thoughts, trying to please everyone. Even though Ralph is portrayed more as a civilized human, he still has that human nature to be cruel. This is shown when he tells the kids that 'fatty' is really called 'Piggy', "...his real name's Piggy!!" , even though he asked not to tell the others that. The defects in human nature is what brought the boys to the island in the first place. The savagery impulses in humankind were belted out in the 'war. When stranded, the more civilized impulses are brought out because of how society has molded them to be. This is shown with Piggy and his adherence to the rules of his aunt. Jack however, feels that his "If it's fun, do it!" Philosophy is the way to go. With Piggy and Jack at the two opposite extremes of human nature, Ralph is pulled somewhere in-between. Ralph seems to be empathetic with both sides. Even though Ralph sides more with Piggy, he still does not change his philosophy, meaning that he does not adhere to the 'rules' like piggy, nor does he get as extreme as Jack and his tribe are. Ralph seems to realize that certain rules of behavior should and must be followed in order to prevent anarchy. If anarchy broke loose, it could and would get out of hand. Unfortunately, anarchy defeats order. This happens because Golding has made it seem that government is not a good tool to keep people together. No matter what, human nature (anarchy) will always overcome society (democracy), and no matter how logical or reasonable, government will eventually have to give in to the demands of the public.

George Washington George Washington was born on his fathers estate in Westmoreland County, Virginia, on February , 17. He was the oldest son of a Virginia farmer, Augistine Washington , by his second wife, Mary Ball, The Washington family was descended from two brothers, John and Lawrence Washington, who emigrated from England to Virginia in 1657. The familys rise to modest wealth in three generations was the result of steady application to farming, land buying, and development of local industries. George seemed to have received most of his schooling from his father and, after the fathers death in 174, from his older half-brother Lawrence. The boy enjoyed mathematics, and he applied it to acquiring a knowledge of surveying, which was a skill greatly in demand in a country where people were seeking new lands in the West. For the Virginians of that time the West meant the upper Ohio River valley. Throughout his life, George Washington maintained a keen interest in the development of these western lands, and from time to time he bought properties for himself. Under the terms of the Constitution, the formal election for the president was done by electors, who were collectively called the Electoral College. Each elector was to vote for the two persons he considered most qualified; the winner would be the president, and the runner-up would be the vice president. The electors themselves were chosen January 7, 178, by the direct vote of the people in some states, and by the legislature in other states. The electors met en each state on February 4 and unanimously voted for George Washington, who thereby became president. Their second choice, far from unanimous, was John Adams of Massachusetts. This pleased Washington because he had feared that the vice presidency might ho to Governor George Clinton of New York, who favored drastic amendment of the constitution. Washington, considering these amendments dangerous, had allowed amendment word to go out that votes for Adams would be agreeable to him because he considered Adams to be a safe man and a strong supporter of the constitution. Also, Washington still had a lingering hope that, after getting the government well started, he might resign from office and hasten home to Mount Vernon. He could not reconcile this hope with his conscience unless a man he considered safe was next in line of succession. In the spring of 170, Washington was struck by a severe cold and then by influenza. For several days it was thought that George would not live. The illness and the anxiety it caused throughout the country underlined Washingtons importance to the new nation. Abigail Adams, wife of the vice president, wrote It appears to me that the union of the states and consequently the permanency of the government depend under Providence upon his life. At this early day when neither our finances are arranged nor our government sufficiently cemented to promise duration, his death would …have…the most disastrous consequences. (page Encyclopedia) Washington attended the inauguration of President John Adams on March 4, 177, and left Philadelphia two days later for Mount Vernon. There he wrote to an old friend that he did not intend to allow the political turmoil of the country to disturb his ease. I shall view things, he said, in the light of mild philosophy. But he did not always agree to this resolve. He strongly opposed the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions of 178, which where an attempt to limit federal powers in line with Jeffersons beliefs. These resolutions seemed to Washington a formula for the dissolution of the Union. In that year also, he accepted the nominal command of the army should the undeclared hostility with France develop into open war. The last journey of his life, in 17, were to the army camp at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, and to Philadelphia to consult on any matters. Early on the morning of December 14, 17, Washington awoke with an inflamed throat. His condition rapidly got worse. He was further weakened by medical treatment that involved frequent blood letting. He faced death calmly and died at 110 later that night. In the national mourning that followed, many tributes were paid to Washington. President Adams call the most illustrious and beloved person that the country had produced. Adams later added His example is now complete, and it will teach wisdom and virtue to magistrates, citizens, and men, not only in the present age but in future generations as long as our history shall be read.

We believe that the strongest competitive strength for Dell is its entire business model. Everything is working in an order so we cannot say that one or two components of the strategy are best. Dell's entire business model is based on the strong vision of Michael Dell and the employees are very much dedicated to it so everything seems like working for them.

Q # 6

What is your assessment of the company's financial performance the past five years?

Short Term Solvency Ratios

1 000

Current ratio = current assets/current liabilities 1.57158 1.471

Quick ratio = (C.A - inventories - prepaid expenses )/ C.L 1.477 1.40408

Long term Solvency Ratios

Debt Equity ratio = (C.A + L.T Liabilities)/Stockholders equity 1.81581 1.07851

Profitability Ratios

Gross Profit Margin =(Sales -cost of goods sold)/sales 0.507 0.0651 0.6508 Percent

Operating Profit Margin = (net operating income/ sales) 0.1115 0.08571 8.57055 Percent

Net profit margin = net income / sales 0.08001 0.06541 6.5410 Percent

Return on Assets = net income / total assets 0.10 0.1456

Return on Equity = net income / total equity 0.60 0.1866

Asset Utilization Ratios

Average collection period = A.R / (sales/65) 41.8607 7.6774 Days

Inventory Turnover = cost of goods sold / inventories 51.7888 51.711

We are given the balance sheet for only two years whereas income statement is of four years. So it is pretty difficult for us to find the ratios for previous years like 18, 17.

But by looking at the revenues row we say that there are very high percentage chances that the company will be doing well in coming years.

In the previous years the company has been performing well. Its revenues have been increasing. Let's look at the year to year increase in revenues. Revenues increased by 7% from 17 to 18, % from 18 to 1 and 7% from 1 to 000. The revenue is increasing but in a declining rate because the industry is has experienced a slump especially technology and PC industry. Prices have come down so these are few reasons why revenues increasing rate has come down but Dell is still doing better than its competitors.

Cost of generating revenue from 17 to 18 was 6.5%, % from 18 to 1 and .5% from 1 to 000. This suggests that not only revenue increasing rate has declined but also the rate of cost for generating revenue has come down. This represents a health picture of a company which has succeeded in cutting the cost and has increased its revenue over the period of time.

Q #7

What are Dell's chances for becoming the global market leader in PCs? Is its strategy potent enough to overtake Compaq Computer?

The Dell's chances for becoming the global market leader in PCs market are very bright. It is already grabbed the second spot and its market share is increasing with passing years as compared to Compaq, which is the market leader now.

Compaq's market share in 18 was 14.5% and in 1 14%. Its market share has decreased by 0.5%. Whereas Dell's market share in the same years has increased by % i.e. from 8.5% to 10.5%. But Dells strategy seems better than Compaqs strategy in the PC segment. So in the near long term it seems that Dell will takeover as the market leader in PCs from Compaq. From above data it seems quite appropriate to believe that Dell will overtake Compaq in the PC industry.

Q # 8

Would you buy stock in this company?

As it is a growing and will be market leader so if we get a chance to buy its share, we will love to buy it. The point here, however, is that our analysis of Dell and its future prospects indicates this is a company where stock ought to yield attractive long-term returns to shareholders.

Dave Pelzers A Child Called It is the nonfiction story of Pelzers own life. As the third worst victim of child abuse documented in California, he captures his audience as they realize his torture. The book begins from the end of Pelzers struggle with child abuse. He then back tracks and tells his story. His mother, once a sweet and caring person, suddenly turns against Pelzer and becomes very abusive, but only to Pelzer and not his other brothers. Her abuse towards him becomes a charade of games, where she purely tortures him, sometimes to the point where one wonders how he was still alive. Although the book mainly focuses on the abuse Pelzer endures, the story explains his motivation and will to survive and defeat his mother. The story is very easy to read because it was developed from a childs viewpoint. But in no way does this detract the quality of the book. If anything the simplicity adds a very endearing quality as you sympathize with Pelzer. Pelzer leaves out few details about the abuse. In one incident of abuse, his mother makes him clean a bathroom (unventilated) with a bucket of ammonia and Clorox. Pelzer writes of this incident, As I breathed in the fumes, I collapsed and began spitting up. My throat felt like it was on fire. Within minutes it was raw." Besides the actual physical abuse, Pelzer receives a great deal of mental abuse. Children at school call him names and accuse him of thievery. His own brothers denounce their relationship with him. Even his own father does very little to protect him. Pelzer is forced to believe that he is a nothing, no longer a boy, but an it with no worth at all. The book ends rather abruptly, leaving one almost frustrated over what eventually happened to Pelzer and seems unfinished. But a more appropriate ending may be found in the other two sequels of the trilogy, The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave. This fast paced book leaves me yearning to help a child, especially one like Pelzer. A Child Called It makes me want to hug Pelzer and let him know he is loved.

With his first book, A Child Called It, Dave Pelzer became know throughout the United States as a diligent fighter against child abuse. Dave would go on to write two other books The Lost Boy, and A Man called Dave to complete a trilogy about his abusive childhood and how he survived it. All three books in his trilogy are on the New York Times bestseller lists.

Term Paper Visual Arts

Strolling through the Memorial Art Gallery I 'm looking for THE 1 piece of Art which catches my attention to write my term paper about . After discovering all the different rooms they have I'm making my decision for this one painting I saw on the first floor.

Write your Mine research paper

First of all it's the whole painting's color appearance which makes me stop and look at it closer .The colors are held in a pastel range , further the pose of the person in the painting is so welcoming , I have to look. It shows a man standing in an addict room left and right from him shelves full of paintings .

Nothing else . Just him in that addict room surrounded by paintings .

He's standing in between and has this expansive and inviting gesture, with wide open arms and about to take a step in the viewers direction, that seems to say " welcome to my world, take a look at it !".

So , who is this person ? Which paintings are on the shelves and why these opened , welcoming arms of the man?

The title of this painting is "Mine" and is painted by the artist Hananiah Harari .

" Mine " is supposed to reflect the artist's life , it is supposed to show which influences he had during his career to bring him to where he is at this point of his life. The paintings on the shelves turn out to be copies of famous artists like Van Gogh , Velasquez and Picasso , mixed with his own artwork and portraits of his wife , children and kids. This selfconfident painting was created by Harari when he was 71 years old. He pictured himself , standing in his world of Art. His desire to connect with the world is propably most apparent in "Mine" , he always had the desire to to educate those unfamiliar with modern art , color his philosophy about art's significance and potential.

And yes , I find myself in those "uneducated" people . Instead of Harari being an artist like so many , not caring what other people think and undertand of Art , he is different ; and his painting reflects that very well.

To me , this painting just totally appears positive , how he is standing in between pieces of famous Art and also his own and most definetily wants everybody to see how much he enjoys it , his life which is lived through Art. It reflects how important his Artwork is for him . And it is so full of self esteem the way he painted himself , the way he welcomes everybody to his world. Nowadays too many people are negative about things they are doing ,

the life they live. But Harari seems to love what he is here for and captures that expression very well.

A Native of Rochester, New York, Harari began to paint while still a teenager. He studied first at the Rochester Memorial Art Gallery, and from 10- at the School of Fine Arts at Syracuse University. In Paris in 1, he studied with Fernand Lger, Andr Lhote, and Marcel Grommaire. Through portrait commissions Harari was able to extend his stay on the citys Left Bank for several years. In Paris, Harari sought out Impressionist and Old Master paintings as well as modern works. He spent a year doing copy drawings from the collections of the Louvre. After a trip to Palestine, where visual richness but little hard cash awaited him, he returned to the United States in 15. Harari settled in New York City, and joined the circle of young abstractionists working on the WPAs mural project under Burgoyne Diller. unencumbered time to develop their art in an environment of purpose and animation . . . ". Throughout Hararis work there is whimsy and wit, and an abiding desire to express a "joie de vivre".

In his painting "Mine' he places the works on the shelves not in order some of them are the other way around , some of the paintings stick out of the shelve and there are almost too many of them stucked in there . Harari is propably a person who takes life as it comes. The styling of his painting leans on to a caricature style , the way he painted it and with the colors it really looks somehow like a comic.

Design and Content relate this way to each other , crazy , interesting life of the Artist(no geometric straight lines) but the colors keep it back it doesn't make the painting scream out , the pastels keep it in Balance. And him standing in the middle of all that artwork gives the impression of the solid piece in his world of Art . The color of his clothes are interesting . He doesn't wear a common , boring color, No , he has this pastel lilac outfit which makes him look like he has this shine inside him . "Mine" is a well done painting which definetely brings over the Artist's massage , how confident he is with his life , how much he want others to take a look at it.

Please note that this sample paper on Mine is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Mine, we are here to assist you. How does

Bronte use the first three chapters of Wuthering Heights to create a sense of foreboding in the novel?

Emily Bronte creates a sense of foreboding by using many different factors. In the first three chapters of Wuthering Heights, one of the ways she builds up a sense of anxiety is by constructing a feeling of unease between the characters. Furthermore, the different ways in which characters act reveal a lot about their situation. The feeling of unease is promoted by the morbid surroundings of the desolate Yorkshire Moors; similarly, the weather reflects the atmosphere of the Wuthering Heights household. The building itself is uninviting and dismal and the sense of foreboding is encouraged by the negative events and the talk of the past, of which the reader knows nothing and is therefore, mystified.

Lockwood describes Wuthering Heights as an ancient fortress, standing against both the weather and outsiders. On his first visit, the first gate has to be unchained before he can enter the court. The date carved above the porch confirms the antiquity of the structure. The narrow windows are deeply set in the wall, and the corners defended with large jutting stones. This implies a similarity to a castle, used for defence against outsiders. This dark description foreshadows the storminess of the events to take place in the plot.

Buy custom How Bronte uses the first 3 chapters of Wuthering Heights to create foreboding term paper

Bronte achieves a sense of foreboding by introducing her first character, Lockwood, as unwanted by the community. Mr Lockwood, the new tenant at Thrushcroft Grange, is an outsider from the city. His first impressions of Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights are unbiased, and optimistic. As a narrator, his unfamiliarity with the story occasionally leads him to misunderstand events.

" He is a dark-skinned gypsy, in aspect, in dress, and in manners a gentleman, that is, as much a gentleman as many a country squire." Lockwood, however, also mentions how unsociable he seems. Bronte does this to show how alien Lockwood is to the area and how quickly he is to try and fit in and accept the locals. As he describes himself as a 'misanthropist,' and an unsociable person, it proves that he is not a reliable source, as his perception is somewhat distorted. However, Heathcliff's attitude towards the newcomer is negative and he encourages Mr Lockwood not to trouble him again

"His attitude at the door appeared to demand my speedy entrance; or complete depart." This shows Heathcliff's passiveness towards other people, and how he has hardened against emotions towards all other relations.

Nevertheless, Lockwood decides to visit the next day, as he finds Heathcliff interesting in conversation. "I found him very intelligent on the topics we touched; and before I went home, I was encouraged so far as to volunteer another visit, tomorrow".

This reinforces the idea of Lockwood's unreliable view of events as he contradicts his own description of himself with his actions.

In the second chapter, Lockwood receives a cold reception and is told that he should not have come because of the weather. Heathcliff forbids Hareton from guiding Lockwood back to the Grange,

"'You'll go with him to hell', exclaimed his master." Most importantly, the chapter reveals that Heathcliff seems to have a real hatred towards his daughter-in-law and forbids her to leave Wuthering Heights for any reason. "How so? I cannot escort you. They wouldn't let me go to the end of the garden-wall." This information forces Lockwood to change his good opinion about his landlord. To reinforce his negative thoughts, Lockwood is shocked when Heathcliff and Hareton laugh instead of rescuing him when the dogs attack him. Bronte includes the dog attack to build up a feeling of tension. She also does it to show the reactions of the other characters. This causes forbidding as we see the characters in their true light and see how hard-hearted they actually are.

"The vehemence of my agitation brought on a copious bleeding at the nose, and still Heathcliff laughed." Lockwood decides that Heathcliff has a genuinely bad nature. The novel teases the reader with the possibility that Heathcliff is something other than what he seemsthat his cruelty is merely an expression of his frustrated love for Catherine, which lives on even after her death. Or that his sinister behavior serves to hide the heart of a romantic hero. Traditionally, romantic novel heroes appear dangerous and cold at first, only later to emerge as fiercely devoted and loving, which arguably, is what Heathcliff does.

Lockwood discovers a pile of diaries in Catherine's room, dating back nearly half a century. The entries in the diary seem particularly mysterious because the reader does not know the circumstances to which they refer. They, like the rest of the room, are dusty and look like they have not been disturbed for a long time. The idea of an untouched room forms a slightly puzzling feeling, which builds up suspense and the question, 'why', which leads to a sense of foreboding.

Lockwood wakes, disturbed from his fitful sleep, by a very violent dream. He dreams about Joseph and the small chapel nearby but the dream does not relate to any of the day's events, except a similarity to a book title he reads. Lockwood then lays his head back down.

'I listened doubtingly an instant; detected the disturber, then turned and dozed, and dreamt again; if possible, still more disagreeably than before.' From this point forward, we are unsure whether Lockwood dreams are in fact, real or not. However, he himself states it was in fact only a dream, This confuses the reader even more, as Heathcliff is adamant that the ghost was not a dream. Bronte does this to show how insecure Heathcliff is about Cathy, and how he can not control his own feelings. Bronte uses him to create a sense of foreboding, by trying to throw the reader off course. They are sure of Heathcliff's personality, yet find in fact, he is completely the opposite.

Lockwood has a face to face encounter with the ghost who, claims to be Catherine Linton, which causes the reader to think that it may be possible for Lockwood to have dreamt this, and known Catherine's name, as he'd read her diaries. However, Heathcliff's reaction tells a different story. He is convinced that it was not a dream and begins to shout and cry out of the window.

"He got onto the bed, and wrenched open the lattice, bursting, as he pulled at it, into an uncontrollable passion of tears. 'Come in! Come in!' he sobbed, do come. Oh do once more! Oh! My hearts darling! hear me this time Catherine, at last!'". The reader is almost made to feel pity for him in his anguish, although the cause of his pain is unknown. Bronte does this to show that events in the past have shaped and affected the people living near-by deeply.

It seems likely, however, that Bronte would have intended the ghost to seem real to her readers such a supernatural event would certainly be in keeping with the dark tone in the rest of the novel. The novel would have been identified as a gothic novel, when it first came out. These were designed to both horrify and fascinate readers with scenes of passion and cruelty. They usually include supernatural elements; and a dark, foreboding atmosphere. Sometimes they include a form of realism.

The strange, deliberately confusing opening chapters of Wuthering Heights serve as Brontes introduction to the world of the novel and to the relationships among the characters. Nothing is ever related simply from the view of a single person. The most important purpose of these early chapters is to engage the readers curiosity about the strange history of Wuthering Heights. The family relationships seem at this point in the novel, to intertwine with complexity. The characters, because Lockwood first encounters them late in their story, seem full of unknown passions and hidden resentments. The mysteries of the land cannot be separated from the mysteries of the characters, and the physical landscape of the novel is often used to reflect the mental and emotional landscapes of those who live there. Bronte creates a sense of foreboding by forming a negative link between every element of the story line. She does this with such ease and skill that the sense of foreboding lasts the entire novel.
